Shonda Rhimes called her adventure The Year of Yes. Mine is 50 for Fifty but but basically, they are the same, a commitment to stepping outside comfort zones and saying yes to life.
Shonda discovered that each “yes” cracked her world open—bringing joy, confidence, and experiences she’d never have had otherwise. I remember feeling so empowered when I read this book years ago and that is exactly the experience I am curating now. Some of my list is fun and playful, some is deeply meaningful, but all of it is about being intentional with this milestone year.
Experience does not come from waiting. It comes from saying yes.
Stress and Burnout thrives on no’s . No to rest, no to joy, no to new experiences.
But Recovery and Renewal begin with yes.
So I’ll ask you, where could a small, bold “yes” to an experience take you right now?
Here are a few ideas to try this week:
- Say yes to something that scares you a little like a new class, a conversation, or a spontaneous trip.
- Say yes to rest by putting your phone down, taking a walk, or turning off notifications for an afternoon. (THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE!!)
- Say yes to connection by calling a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while or sharing a meal with someone you care about.
Every yes moves you closer to the life you want. What’s yours?
