This summer, my main goal is to keep my stress and anxiety in check. The season kicked off at a rapid pace, with a lot coming my way. I realized I needed to take a step back and reassess my priorities. It’s been interesting to use discernment for fun activities. Usually, we use discernment to differentiate between what’s good for us and what’s not, but what if everything is good? How do you decide then? The key is being realistic about your capacity.
Capacity is a multifaceted concept—encompassing energy, money, time, and mental bandwidth. I found that I had to opt out of many activities this summer because I simply didn’t have the capacity to handle it all. Prioritizing meant setting boundaries and saying no to trips, outings, and even some people.
It’s been a challenging process and remains a work in progress. However, this fall, I’ll be much closer to the goals I have been working on and that feels amazing. This focus on personal capacity and prioritization is crucial for me this year, even if it means doing things differently than I have in the past. Remember that we do not have to be who we have always been!
