As we embrace the summer, we might find ourselves juggling a variety of activities and commitments that might arise. Summertime has always been something we look forward to, with the longer days, warm weather, and activities that we can only experience during this time of the year.
However, summertime can also come with a unique set of challenges. Whether you’re managing your family’s summer schedule, handling work deadlines, or dealing with the heat, (like I am here in Texas), it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
This month, I encourage you to embark on a journey of self-reflection and self-care. Take a moment to check in with yourself. How are you feeling emotionally? Are there any stressors weighing you down? Recognizing and acknowledging your emotions is the first step toward managing them effectively.
But don’t worry, there are some things we can do to have a healthy and enjoyable summer. One of the best ways to manage stress is through PLANNING.
Create a Summer Schedule: Map out your activities and commitments for the season. Include family vacations, social gatherings, and work deadlines. Having a visual overview can help you allocate time effectively and avoid overbooking.
Prioritize Tasks: Determine which tasks are most important and tackle them first. This ensures that critical responsibilities are managed, reducing the pressure of last-minute urgencies.
Set Realistic Goals: Summer is a time for relaxation and rejuvenation. Set achievable goals that allow you to enjoy the season without feeling overwhelmed. Remember, it’s okay to say no (check out my “Know Your No” worksheet in the resource library) to additional commitments if they interfere with your peace of mind.
With that said, let’s keep in mind that summertime is often unpredictable. Embrace flexibility and be open to spontaneous activities. Sometimes the best memories are made when plans change unexpectedly.
Another thing we can do to manage summer stress is to stay MINDFUL.
Practice Daily Meditation: Even just a few minutes of meditation each day can help clear your mind and reduce stress. Find a quiet space and focus on your breathing! That is all you have to do.
Engage in Physical Activity: Moving your body is a great way to release tension and boost your mood. Whether it’s a morning dance session, a yoga session, or a swim, make time for physical activity that you enjoy.
Disconnect to Reconnect: Take breaks from digital devices to connect with nature and loved ones. Unplugging from technology can help you feel more present and reduce stress.
Remember, summer is a time to enjoy and rejuvenate. I will be back next month with more tips on how to manage our stress in the summer months. By implementing these strategies, you can manage stress and make the most of this vibrant season.
Wishing you a peaceful and enjoyable summer!
